The Diploma in Corporate Security Management Studies (DCSMS) is a Five (5) module program offered on both Full-time and Part-time basis. It is designed to provide a broad overview of the Corporate Security function through five modules comprising Corporate Security Management; Information Security and Data Protection; Physical Security Planning and Design; Security Risk and Threat Management and Business Continuity Management. It is structured to provide security practitioners with comprehensive knowledge of the critical functions of the Corporate Security portfolio within the private sector industry. CSMS teaches foundational knowledge for corporate security management and incorporates concepts, principles, strategic structures, and models that has been researched and applied across various private sector industries. It also examines global Security and Risk- related data, trends and case studies which are then applied through practical assignments.
DCSMS allows security practitioners in both the public and private sectors to recognise the role and strategic value of the Corporate Security function within a Business or Organization. It specifically defines the integral collaborative partnerships between the Corporate Security function and the various Business functions within a Company or Organization that is required in order to achieve early identification of security-related threats and risks that may cripple the operations of the company or organization. It also examines the differences between the implementation of countermeasures and mitigating solutions to safeguard the Business or Organization against such security-related threats and risks.
The Diploma in Corporate Security Management Studies is applicable and relevant to security practitioners from both the Public and Private Sectors, as well as those who are considering a career transition from a non-security role. DCSMS aims to equip both security practitioners and new entrants into the security industry with a competent level of subject matter expertise that they can apply through actionable outcomes in their respective work industry.
Notably, the trainers engaged are Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their respective fields, holding professional certifications and with years of hands on experience in various industries. The teaching methodology adopted is by impartation of knowledge and skills through participative learning, discussions, table-top exercises (TTX) and practical assignments.
Learning Objectives
- To provide a comprehensive knowledge of the critical functions of the Corporate Security portfolio within the private sector industry and teach foundational knowledge for corporate security management
through concepts, principles, strategic structures and various models that has been researched and applied across various private sector industries. - To learn the critical fundamentals of physical security planning and design through concepts, principles and structures and how they are applied into planning and designing of physical security to protect a physical landscape or built-up space, including understanding the concept and functional use of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) as part of the physical security planning and design strategy.
- To acquire knowledge and understanding of Information Security and Data Protection, learn new strategies and approaches at cyber defence and understand the fundamentals of system architecture.
- To learn the fundamental concept of Location Threat Assessment for high-risk locations and how to identify Escalation and De-escalation Trigger Points for a given high-risk location.
- To understand the various components that constitutes a Business Continuity Management program and learn to develop a crisis management plan, business continuity plan and disaster recovery plan respectively, according to definitions, concepts and structures in ISO 22301.
REQUIREMENTS GRADUATION AND ENTRY
Entry Requirements
- 21 years old and above
- Degree Holders; or
Applicants with at least 3 years of industry experience but without a degree may also be eligible - Pass in English in GCE “O” level or equivalent; or
For International Students, they must pass in English in Secondary or High School education or equivalent. - Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Graduation Requirement for All Levels
Participants will be assessed throughout the duration of the program. In order to be conferred with the Diploma, participants must achieve a pass for their in-class assessments and module papers, and at least 75% of class attendance.
Duration
The Diploma is conducted over a period of 5 months (full time) lessons or 10 months (part time) lessons.
Course Delivery
The Diploma program is delivered via two versions, face to face and online, to better accommodate the requirements and preferences of the participants. The course content includes a combination of theories, case studies, exercises and group discussions.
