The Diploma in Anti & Counter Terrorism Studies (DACTS) is a Five (5) module program offered on both Full-time and Part-time basis. It premises on the tenet of terrorism, expounding on key clandestinity denominators that governs its development and growth.
The program is designed by in-tune AT-CT practitioners from the Academic Board. It is structured holistically to provide security professionals with comprehensive knowledge on the imperatives spanning the Strategic, Operational and Tactical realms. Collusion of the three (3) imperatives is an important aspect since no single domain will be adequate in such a confounding subject.
Applicability and relevance of the programs include security practitioners from governmental bodies, as well as the private security industry. Examples include portfolio holders that include: Trainers, Consultants, Security mangers, Supervisors and Frontline operators. Its take-way and eventual objective is to equip practitioners with actionable outcomes that each can apply in their respective sphere of work.
Notably, trainers engaged are Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their respective fields. This facet is cardinal for quality and professionalism assurances given the ambulant and evolving threat landscape.
The adopted teaching methodology to impart knowledge and skills are through participative learning, discussions, table-top exercises (TTX) and case studies of previous no-duff occurrences. The strive is to make contents relatable and relevant to student’s field of work and specialisation.
Learning Objectives:
- To explore the complex interplay between the terrorist threat and governmental and international responses, introducing participants to both theoretical analyses of how terrorism is defined and structured, as well as to empirical case studies of terrorist groups, activities and operations.
- To recognise the impact of terrorism on politics, economics, law, society and culture and learn about the latest developments and advances in the field of terrorism studies and counter-terrorism practices.
- To learn the motivations and methods of key terrorist groups and individuals, as well as the core theories of terrorism and how to apply theoretical and conceptual tools to historical and contemporary policy issues.
- To provide specialist study relevant to individual vocations and environments in which learners are currently working, or to which learners are aiming to work within the business sector.
- To develop participants’ ability to contribute positively to good practice in the law enforcement and corporate environment through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in the qualifications.
Learning Outcome:
- Grasp the evolution, motivation and ideology of terrorist/radical groups in their respective geographical domains.
- Gain in-depth understanding on the current threat, pattern-trends and modus operandi.
- Demonstrate knowledge of concepts, theories, history and debates pertaining to the phenomenology of terrorism.
- Know how and why terrorist plot against civilians, governments, corporations, commercial operations, transport or IT networks makes an unmistakable difference to an organisation’s security strategies.
- Critically analyse theories and policies of anti-counter terrorism and distinguish philosophical ideologies that impact on anti-counter terrorism.
- Determine the impact on business and community sustainability associated with threats and attacks on local and national critical infrastructure.
- Discover the concepts of emergency response and crisis management and how to design and implement counter measures appropriate to the threats identified.
REQUIREMENTS GRADUATION AND ENTRY
Entry Requirements
- 21 years old and above
- Degree Holders; or
Applicants with at least 3 years of industry experience but without a degree may also be eligible - Pass in English in GCE “O” level or equivalent; or
For International Students, they must pass in English in Secondary or High School education or equivalent. - Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Graduation Requirement for All Levels
Participants will be assessed throughout the duration of the program. In order to be conferred with the Diploma, participants must achieve a pass for their in-class assessments and module papers, and at least 75% of class attendance.
Duration
Diploma in Anti & Counter Terrorism is conducted over a period of 5 months (full time) lessons or 10 months (part time) lessons.
Course Delivery
The Diploma program is delivered via two versions, face to face and online, to better accommodate the requirements and preferences of the participants. The course content includes a combination of theories, case studies, exercises and group discussions.
